Calcutta High Court Summons Commissioner And Legal Remembrancer : Why All Cyber Crime Cases Are Assigned To One Advocate?
On 17th December, 2021 (Friday), the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court disclosed irritation at the Police Commissioner, Bidhannanagar for assigning all cases of Cyber Crime Police Station, Bidhannagar to one particular lawyer who hampered the court proceedings by seeking multiple adjournments.
In this regard, Justice Tirthankar Ghosh sought the Police Commissioner’s personal appearance and remarked that he would have to explain how the Commiserate is not responsible for disrupting court proceedings.
This direction and observation were made by the Court when the state assigned counsel (Bivas Chatterjee) sought an adjournment during the hearing of a bail plea filed U/S. 439 of Cr. P.C.
As per the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court, this was a complete mockery of the court and also directed the Legal Remembrancer to appear before it on the next date of hearing to explain why one particular lawyer was appointed.
The Court directed the Registrar General to ensure that the order is communicated to the concerned officials and posted the case to 20th December 2021 (Monday).
